A software engineer in Seattle hacked into a server holding customer information for Capital One and obtained the personal data of over 100 million people, federal prosecutors said on Monday, in one of the largest thefts of data from a bank.

The suspect, Paige Thompson, 33, left a trail online for investigators to follow as she boasted about the hacking, according to court documents in Seattle, where she was arrested and charged with one count of computer fraud and abuse.

Sécurité des paiements : En 2018 plus d’un milliard d’euros de fraude

Le Gouverneur de la Banque de France vient de présenter début juillet 2019 un bilan mitigé de la sécurité des moyens de paiement. Car, malgré les artifices de la présentation, les chiffres sont formels : la fraude bancaire a battu tous les records en 2018. Elle a ainsi bondi de 36 % sur un an pour atteindre un peu plus d’un milliard d’euros. Du jamais vu ! Si la Place n’a pas manqué de faire du chèque le bouc-émissaire de ces résultats désastreux, cette vision est réductrice puisque la carte bancaire totalise 90 % des fraudes. Plus grave encore, elle passe à côté de l’essentiel, à savoir mener des actions pour prévenir la fraude, faciliter le remboursement des victimes et surtout sécuriser les paiements à l’avenir.
